Camberley Town
Description
Camberley Town is a semi-professional football club from the town of Camberley in Surrey. The club was founded in 1895 as St. Michael's, Camberley FC. In 1901 it was renamed Camberley & Yorktown FC. A further change of name occurred after world war II when the club was simply called Camberley FC. In 1967 Camberley merged with the town's other senior club, Camberley Wanderers, to become Camberley Town FC.
It currently has two senior sides. The first team play in the Combined Counties League Premier Division, the reserves in the Suburban League North Division.
Honours include various league titles such as the Surrey Senior League three years running in the early 1930's and a few minor cups including the Surrey Senior Cup in 1979 and the Aldershot Senior Cup which has been won three times. In national competitions the club's best ever performance in the FA Cup came in 1998 when they lost 5-0 at Brentford in the 1st Round proper. Their best FA Vase performance came in 1986 when they reached the quarter-finals losing 3-1 at eventual winners Halesowen Town.
Camberley Town also make ties with the local community by having a thriving youth set-up which has recently achieved charter status. This is for boys and girls of all ages from under 6 to under 18. Youths between the ages of 15 and 18 that show a lot of talent and play with ability will have the chance to play in one of the Camberley Town under 18 teams from which a number of senior players have been picked over the years including current Torquay United player Tim Sills.
