Curzon Ashton
Description
Curzon Ashton F.C. are a football club whose home ground is the Tameside Stadium, Richmond Street Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, England, formed in 1963 after the merger of two clubs, Curzon Road F.C. and Ashton Amateurs F.C., who played in the Manchester Football League, not to be confused with Ashton Athletic F.C.
In the 1978-79 season, they joined the Cheshire County League Division Two as founder members and the following season, they were semi-finalists in the FA Vase. Curzon's best ever league finish came in 1995-96, when they finished 4th in the Northern Premier League First Division (a division that they were founder members of in 1987) under the guidance of former Warrington Town boss, Derek Brownbill. Their all-time record goalscorer is Rod Lawton.
On Saturday March 3rd 2007, they beat Leamington FC 4-1 to reach the semi-final of the FA Vase for the second time in their history.
They were beaten in the semi-final 3-2 over two legs by Truro City from Cornwall, however they ensured promotion to the Unibond League by coming runners up to FC United of Manchester. They also were runners up to FC United of Manchester in the North West Counties League Challenge Cup being beaten 2-1 but a great season.
Curzon Reserves also achieved promotion from the Mid-Cheshire Football League Division 2 to Division 1 but now play Stalybridge Celtic on Mon 14th May 7.45 KO to decided who will go up as Champions as both local teams finished on the same points and goal difference
Curzon have recently signed young striker, Ryan Moore, from Fleetwood Town. Moore is predicted to be one for the future and showed this when he scored two goals against Mossley A.F.C. in Curzon's 2-1 away win.
Curzon Ashton have a successful youth team that are currently the only non-league side from Greater Manchester left in the FA Youth Cup after winning on penalties following a 1-1 against Chesterfield FC. In the 2006/7 season they narrowly lose out at the same stage to Macclesfield Town, who were fortunate to win 3-2. They play Chester City youth at home on the 21st November 2007. Many of the Youth Team also play at senior level in the Cheshire Football league for the Curzon Ashton reserve Team and one or two have also represented the first team.
