Danubio FC
Description
Danubio Fútbol Club is a Uruguayan football (soccer) club based in Montevideo. It was founded by the Bulgarian born brothers Miguel and Juan Lazaroff on March 1, 1932 and other youths from the "Republica de Nicaragua" school in Montevideo. The name of the club refers to the Danube river in the major river in Bulgaria.
Famous players from the club are, e.g., Álvaro Recoba, Ruben Sosa, Marcelo Zalayeta, Ruben Olivera. Diego Forlán also played in the reserves after leaving Peñarol and before joining Argentine club Independiente Avellaneda.
Danubio is the current champion of Uruguay after defeating Peñarol on penalties after a 1-1 draw to claim the 2007 Clausura. Danubio won the title before in the years 1988 and 2004.
