FC Midtjylland
Description
FC Midtjylland is a Danish football team from Ikast. The team is a result of a merger between Ikast FS (which also includes tennis, badminton and handball clubs) and Herning Fremad. Currently FC Midtjylland play in the Danish Superliga.
FC Midtjylland play in a new stadium, SAS Arena, which Messecenter Herning owns.
Up to the spring season 2007, FC Midtjylland was put in a bad light because they made deals with pupils from African countries to play and study at their football academy - Denmarks first of its kind. The club management's defence was: "They study and play football when they do not study". "We abide by all rules from DBU as well as government, with regards to football and player trafficing".
FC Midtjylland is in mid 2007 working on a financial expansion in the region of 10 mio. EUR, to secure its current status as a challenger to the national football throne of Brøndby IF and F.C. Copenhagen.
The most successful player so far is Mohammed Zidan. He was transferred from FC Midtjylland to German side SV Werder Bremen, and is an Egyptian international who currently plays for Hamburger SV and is one of the top scorers in the German Bundesliga. He was the top scorer for 1. FSV Mainz 05 in the 2006/07 season.
