Description
Málaga Club de Fútbol is a Spanish football club based in Málaga, Andalusia. They currently play in the Segunda División. The club was originally the reserve team of CD Málaga, an earlier football club from the same city. After making their La Liga debut in 1999, they won the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2002. They then qualified for the following seasons UEFA Cup and reached the quarter-final stages. They were relegated from La Liga in 2006. In 2006 Lorenzo Sanz, a former Real Madrid president, purchased a 97% holding in the club and then appointed his son Fernando Sanz, a former player with both Málaga CF and Real Madrid, as club president. The club now has its own reserve team, Málaga CF B.
