Description

Shildon A.F.C. is a football club established in 1890 based in Shildon, County Durham, England. They compete in the Arngrove Northern League Division One. They play at Dean Street.

In November 2003, they reached the FA Cup First Round for the first time in 42 years. Unfortunately, however, they were beaten 7-2 on the day by Notts County. They have a very successful history in the 1930s of which can be seen on their website [http://www.shildonafc.co.uk]

They joined the North Eastern League in 1907 and have won the Northern League title five times in their history.

Shildon's nickname is The Railwaymen after the wagon works that was the major employer in he town for many years. They are sometimes called by the nickname The Shells.

In the 2007-08 season, they are members of the Northern League Division One.

Bishop Auckland also currently play at Dean Street along with the Shells (capacity 4,700).
