Stamford
Description
Stamford AFC are an English association football team based in Stamford, currently playing in the Northern Premier League Premier Division. They play at the Vic Couzens Stadium (which has a strong claim to be the oldest standing stadium in the world ) Their nickname is The Daniels, in reference to Daniel Lambert, the reputed fattest man in English history, who is buried in the town.
The team were relegated from the Southern League Premier Division at the end of 2004/05 season after recording only 6 wins and 17 draws, the most in the division that season. However the Daniels managed to get to the 2nd Round (Old 5th Round) of the FA Trophy going out at home 1-0 to Conference side Exeter City. After finishing 5th in the Southern League Division One East the Daniels won the play-offs by beating Wivenhoe Town 2-0 in the final to return to the Southern League Premier Division. In 2007 they were transferred to the Northern Premier League Premier Division.
In 1913-14 season Stamford had their best run in the FA Cup when they made the 5th Qualifying Round.
